It was never a good idea to leave Ches alone. It was even worse if the man was bored. The cure for boredom, in his case, was curiosity. And people have said 'curiosity killed the cat'. The term was rather harsh, considering he was in fact, a cat. But still, there was no cure for curiosity and the cat was in the mood to explore.
Unfortunately, not everyone enjoyed his exploring. Yes, he could get rather annoying at times. Most just tried to ignore considering the fact he was the host and he did make a way for mutants to escape persecution. So most couldn't bring themselves to scolding him. Not all were like that though...
"Go to your office Mr. Ches!" he heard his right hand scold, clearly annoyed by his antics. Cheshire's ears lowered and he pouted. "But it's boring in there! Besides, it's not like I'm bothering anyone! Your just being moody..." Cheshire crossed his arms as his tail flickered about. His words by no means bettered his chances, actually it just made everything much worse. "As usual," he continued. Those final words were the last straw and she yelled, "Go, NOW!" The words frightened him and he suddenly shifted to his feline form before running off to his office in fear.
Once in his office, the host sulked in a corner. "Why is Mom always so mean to me? I was just trying to have fun!" After a moment or so of sulking, he got to his feet and made his way to his desk, sitting in his 'special' rolling chair. He sat back and relaxed, resting his feet on the desktop and closing his eyes. "I'm sooo bored!" He sighed audibly before popping open an eye, looking at the door.
Perhaps he could just sneak back out again. He could probably avoid her for awhile. At least until she cooled off. But then again, she wasn't one to let go so quickly. Actually, if he was caught by her again outside of his office, he was sure she would not take it so well. She could be rather abusive.
Cheshire sat up and tried to think of something to do. Something to occupy his time till he was taken out of 'timeout'. But when nothing came, he stretched out over his desk and banged his head on the hard surface.
The sooner he got out of here, the better.

Ardea had been having a hard day. First, when she had woken up, she had banged her head and in her immediate cry of anger, she had accidentally set one of her two pillows aflame. She’d quickly dispersed of the fire, though the pillow was pretty much ruined. With a groan she had thrown it out before laying back in bed. She, of course, couldn’t get back to sleep, so she decided to go and get some breakfast. She got an omelet filled with all the proper necessities – cheese, ham, tomatoes, jalepeno sauce, etc. – but when she bit into it the taste was disgusting. It was apparently burnt and Ardea threw it out with another dissatisfied groan.
With nothing else to do, Ardea decided she could at least get some training in, but alas that proved to go horribly as well. She was on the outskirts of the camp for the performers, using her matches to create fire and then using her powers to move it around in the air and whatnot. She apparently wasn’t up for the task after knocking her head and not having any breakfast, though, and she almost immediately lost control of the fireball, accidentally sending it crashing through a nearby window. She ran over to it, cursing herself, and realized just whose office this was. Ches’s. Great.
The fireball had landed on the carpet and was slowly starting to expand, but Ardea, jumping through the window, was able to get it to dissipate and then with a sigh she fell onto her butt on the carpet. She glanced slowly over to Ches, sitting in his chair, and smiled a little awkwardly at him.
“Uhm… Hey Ches,” she greeted, scratching the back of her head and trying to laugh, though it came out as almost a defeated sigh. She glanced at the burn spot. “Uh… Sorry about the burn spot,” she glanced up, “and the window…”

He was by no means prepared for the shock. Cheshire was tapping his fingers on the desk impatiently when he heard a crash. His ears shot up and his tail expanded at the sudden noise. He glanced over to the broken window but his eyes caught sight of the flame on his carpet. His eyes widened in shock. What the hell was happening?!
Just then, he caught a glimpse of the figure jump through his window. It was Ardea!
When she calmed down the fire, he began to relax, slumping slightly in his chair and exhaling a breath of relief. As she looked over to him with an awkward smile, he simply stared back at her with a blank expression.
“Uhm… Hey Ches.”
He chuckled rather nervously, still a little tense from the scare. "Hey, Adrea."
As she apologized, he slowly regained composure and managed a charming grin. "Oh... It's fine. Just scared me is all," he assured her with a small laugh.
Well, he seemed to have someone to talk to now. Maybe he wouldn't be so bored. He wished the entrance wouldn't had been so frightening but what could you do?

Ardea felt another groan begging to come out, but she held it in. Of all the offices she could’ve busted into, why did it have to be Ches’s? Ever since she had come to the circus, Ardea had respected and admired the host. He had been the one to make her realize just how wrong of a direction her life was going in and if it hadn’t been for him, Ardea wouldn’t be as happy as she was today.
“Sorry,” she replied, crossing her legs as though this happened all the time. There was a moment of silence before Ardea stood up with a little sigh. She clasped her hands behind her back, her fingers twiddling with the back of the dark blue plaid skirt she wore. After another moment of silence Ardea transformed her frown into a thin line and nodded.
“Alright,” she said, taking a step towards the door and glancing over her shoulder at Ches behind his desk. She didn’t really want to leave, but she also didn’t want to stay and cause any more trouble for Ches. “I’ll leave you alone to do some work, I guess.” She grabbed the knob of the door. “Uhm… sorry again for the burn.”

She apologized again and he smiled, fully relaxed now. Was he really that scary? He knew he was the host but he wasn't that mean was he? She acted as if he always scolded her or something. That wasn't logical though, seeing as he was usually the one who got scolded around here.
As she stood, his eyes lifted and watched her closely. She seemed nervous which had a bothering affect on Ches. He didn't like seeing people like this. He'd much rather see her smile and the both of them laugh about the little accident.
After a few moments of silence, he watched her walk towards the door.
“I’ll leave you alone to do some work, I guess.”
His ears lowered and his eyes widened. No! He didn't want to be alone!
“Uhm… sorry again for the burn.”
As she grabbed the door, he leaped from his chair and was quickly at her side. While he was obviously frantic, terrified of the thought of being alone, he tried to not look insane. Didn't want to frighten her.
"No, no! Please, stay here! I would really enjoy to have your company." He wasn't sure if it were possible or not but he was sure if he was left alone, he'd die of boredom.

Ardea very nearly jumped out of her skin when Ches jumped at her, landing by her side. She stepped back, gaping at him, her hand clutching her trusty matchbox, which she had instinctively pulled out in response to the surprise. He was looking at her frantically and she simply stared back for a moment, blinking up at the somewhat taller person. He seemed almost scared for her to leave. The two stood there for a long moment before a smile broke out across Ardea’s face and she suddenly burst into laughter. She clutched her stomach, setting the other against the door to keep herself from falling over.
“Oh my god, Ches!” Ardea said, leaning back against the door, smiling at him and calming down her laughter. “You… You really are something, huh? I suppose I can stay.”
She crossed her arms over her chest and continued smiling at him. The two had never hung out for too long of a time, though they had interacted and had quite interesting conversations. Ches was one of the people Ardea was closest to in the circus, though, despite the fact that they didn’t spend too much time together.
“So…” she said, glancing around after a moment, “What do you want to do? If you’re so intent on not doing your work we can just go through the window and find something to do.” And with this she glanced over to the already-broken window, where the world outside awaited the duo.

He watched her reaction to his behavior. He expected as much but really hoped it wouldn't be that way. He started to apologize but noticed the matchbox. His expression turned to pure shock. Looks like he might be sharing the same fate as his carpet. He bit his lip as he stepped back a bit unsure of what to do. That's when she burst into laughter.
Ches' ear lowered and his tail drooped as he stared at her with a lost expression. What happened? Did he do something funny?
“You… You really are something, huh?"
He finally smiled back, releasing the breath he realized he was holding. While still entirely confused, at least he wasn't set aflame. Thank god. Burnt fur never smelt that good...
When she told him she would stay, he completely forgot about the previous experience like it never even happened.
“What do you want to do? If you’re so intent on not doing your work we can just go through the window and find something to do.”
He smirked at the mention of work. Yes. The host certainly would like to skip out on that. Who the hell came up with the idea for paperwork?! He only wanted to have fun when he ran the circus. Not be crowded by a company of documents and bills. But since Mother insisted on him helping out because of the tremendous amount of files, he was forced to take on some actual work.
He liked the idea of escaping. Reminded him of old times when he escaped from the labs. Back then, he didn't fear the pursuers. But now, he had his right hand and she could be a little scary when he disobeyed her rules. Of course, he was feeling rather risky today. It would be worth it.
"Sounds great, Ardea!" Like a excited child, he ran for the window, ready to explore the outside world. But then something clicked and he immediately stopped. If he just ran out, he could get caught. He had no idea how but Mother always caught him. He would need to think of a strategy.
Turning back to her, he tried to think of something, which was rather hard in his state. "Uh... You wouldn't happen to know how I can get out without being caught would you? I'm grounded at the moment and if I get caught, it wont end very well," he replied with a charming grin.

Ardea noted the trademark smirk that spread across Ches’s features and she couldn’t help but chuckle at it slightly as she leaned back against the door, completely relaxed for the moment. She watched him jump around the room like a child on Christmas with a cheerful little smile gracing her features. He surely was entertaining to say the least, that was for sure.
As she stood there, Ardea could remember the first time she had met Ches. She was an agent back then, one of the best, but just being around him and caused her to see how horrid her life was and she quickly joined him at the circus. She really owed him everything and if sneaking him out for a day of relaxing fun was how she began to repay him, then by god she was going to do it.
“Grounded?” she questioned at his predicament, cocking an eyebrow in his direction. But then she remembered how Ches’s partner could be. Ardea had never been as close to the other leader of the circus as she was to Ches, but Ardea had heard the stories and new the reputation.
“Hmmm…” she thought aloud, pushing herself off of the door and strolling slowly over to the window, where Ches stood. Ardea was a mastermind when it came to things like this. As she contemplated what to do, Ardea absentmindedly lit a fire with one of her matches and started spinning the small fireball around her thin, pale fingers elegantly.
Suddenly in an “aha!” moment, Ardea snapped her fingers and the flame disappeared. She grinned widely at Ches. “I’ve got it!” She took a step towards Ches, grinning mischievously. “There’s this place that I used to go to around here before I joined the circus. It’s a small town nearby that almost always has some sort of festival going on. I’m sure it’ll be a fun thing to do and no one will think to go there so no one will see us. We can lock your office door so they don’t know you’re gone and I can fix the window with my fire after we leave!”

Cheshire watched as she thought up a plan. He was sure she would be able to think of something. He sure as hell couldn't. Mother knew him like the back of her hand. He wasn't so lucky...
The cat looked out the shattered window while he waited patiently for a solution. Hopefully she wouldn't be too mad about it. That's all he needed...
“I’ve got it!”
Ches jumped slightly, almost forgetting completely about her presence. He laughed at himself for his reaction. One thing he hated about having this cat DNA in him was the fact he was easily terrified. Nice right?
The plan was a good one. It could actually work! "That's why I love you," he replied with a playful smirk. "Let's go! I'm ready to get out of this horrid office!" He grabbed a hold of her hand and started for the window. Once there, he released her and jumped through, landing on all fours outside before looking over his shoulder back to her, seeing if she was following with a childish eagerness!

Ardea smiled confidently as she concluded her explanation and by the look on Ches’s face he though it was a good idea also. Though she just chuckled at his exclamation and playful smirk, Ardea couldn’t stop her cheeks from darkening slightly as he took her hand and guided her over closer to the window. She played it off as though nothing were out of the ordinary as she silently willed her cheeks to lighten up a bit in the color department. She was finally able to get control of her blush once Ches let go of her hand and jumped through the window and out into the world.
Before jumping through, Ardea grabbed the shards of glass off of the office ground and brought them out the window with her. Once she was out, the young woman knelt down before the window, turning away from Ches for a moment, and held the shards of glass to the broken window. She closed her eyes and though she didn’t create any actual flames, she heated her fingertips to the point that they started to slightly melt the glass shards. Once they were manageably melted, Ardea held them to the broken window and melded them together with her heat. Once all the shards were in and the whole was fixed, Ardea quickly stepped back, shutting out the heat to her fingertips. Instantly a hiss escaped the fixed window as the shards cooled.
“There!” Ardea said, standing up straight and smiling at her handy work. She turned behind her to Ches after a moment, grinning happily. “Alright, shall we?”
And then she started off in the direction of the little town. They would have to cross the clearing that she had been practicing in before the fireball incident and then they would have to go through a small patch of woods before they reached the dirt road and then it was just three minute walk to the center of town. Ardea wondered what sort of festival would be going on that day. She remembered going to the little town numerous times when she was an agent and needed a break and it had always been a fun place. She glanced over at Ches, wondering whether he would enjoy himself or not.

Ches watched with great interest as she repaired the window. He always wondered how it was to be able to control such an element. He never was capable of creating fire. He shape-shifted, which of course he thought was boring. If you asked him years ago though when he actually seemed a little less insane, he would have told you how horrible it felt. His first shift was utterly painful. Luckily as the years went on, he has become more accustom to it and now it doesn't at all.
“Alright, shall we?”
He rose to his feet and nodded, grinning wildly. He was more than ready to get out of here. A new place with a festival sounded interesting! Whatever a festival was anyway. Yeah he was totally clueless as to what it was but she seemed happy about it and she did say it would be fun so he believed her.
As she started off, he obediently followed her. He was anxious to see what they would do. New things always excited him!

As they headed to the festival town, Ardea and Ches talked about some nonsense things. She asked him why he was avoiding work even though she knew that it was probably because Ches was just a free spirit who wasn’t all that fond of work. Ardea herself wasn’t all that big on work. Since joining the circus, she had become excessively lazy unless the task was directly connected to the circus or her fire abilities. Speaking of which, as they walked, Ardea lit a match and laced and rolled the small fireball through her slender fingers. It was a habit that she had had since she had been experimented on and she barely even noticed she was doing it anymore.
Finally they reached the town and Ardea’s face considerably brightened. Laughter could be heard from people of all ages. Reading the banner hanging across the main street leading to the town square – where the main events were going on – Ardea saw that the festival was to celebrate the Hunter’s Moon. From the recesses of her mind, Ardea pulled some learned information on the specialty moon. She paused in her stroll, realizing that this knowledge must have come from her life before the experiments.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by a group of young children bumping into her and sending her tilting over. She cried out in shock, catching herself before falling by grasping Ches’s forearm. She stared after the kids, wide-eyed, and then turned to Ches, quickly letting go of his arm.
“Oh, sorry,” she said, scratching the back of her head and trying to get her bearings. “I guess I was just lost in my thoughts or something. Huh…” She shook her head again, clearing her thoughts, and then took in a deep whiff of the delicious smells of foods emanating from the different stands scattered on either side of the main street and around the edge of the main square. “Mmmm… That smells so good.”
Around them there were carts and stands filled with all different kinds of foods and there were some games being played as well as some different prizes to be won. In the center of the large square was a merry-go-round filled children and teens sitting on the seats, laughing as the cheery music played. On the far side of the square away from Ardea and Ches was a large stage upon which stood a local band, playing some recently famous song with their own homey twist to it.
With a large, happy grin on her face, Ardea turned to Ches. “What do you want to do first?”

As she asked him questions, he answered them, glad to have her interest. "Not really in the mood for work." Of course, he never really was. He much preferred taking the time to have fun rather than working his life away behind that desk of his.
He noticed how she ran a ball of fire through her fingers. At first, he was about to ask her. She seemed to do that little thing often. But then he thought it might have been just a habit. Like his habit to change forms without thinking. Speaking of which, he might have to focus on avoiding that. If there were going to be many people, that would suck to accidentally turn into a cat before them.
When they reached the town, anyone could tell he was thrilled to be there. They also noticed the ears and tail which seemed to bring on more attention. Not that he would complain. Then suddenly, he felt something grab his arm. Cheshire's eyes lowered to find Ardea holding herself up by his arm. He smirked playfully at the sight. She was a little clumsy today wasn't she? "It's fine. Don't worry about it, Love."
All the different sounds and aromas of the area kept him on high alert. He was really anxious now.
“What do you want to do first?”
Ches looked around as he tried to figure out what would be fun. Unfortunately, all of it looked promising, making it difficult for him to choose. Ears lowered as he continued to think then after coming up with nothing, he smiled sheepishly. "I have no idea. How about you choose?"

Ardea rolled her eyes at Ches’s response. Of course he didn’t know what to do, so it was up to her to figure out what fun event they should partake in first. Looking around, Ardea got a very contemplative expression on her face. That is, until she saw a little game. Her eyes lit up considerably and she immediately felt her already wide grin spread even farther. She immediately reached out and grabbed Ches’s hand so as to better lead him through the large crowds of people without losing him.
“Come on,” she said, starting to pull him towards the stand. “This is my favorite game that they have!”
They came up to the little stand and the man standing inside it smiled brightly at them, welcoming them. Ardea nodded in hello and then reached down to her pocket to grab her wallet. When he hand grazed against her skirt, she realized that she didn’t have any pockets and thus didn’t have her wallet with her. A defeated look came over her features as she stared down into the mock river that flowed around the carnival man, little ducks of bright colors bobbing by slowly. She bit her bottom lip, swallowed her pride, and turned to Ches.
“Uhm… Ches?” she asked sheepishly, blushing a little. “I forgot my wallet. Uhm… Would you mind paying for me?” Then, quickly, “I’ll pay you back I swear!”

As he was relieved of his duties, he looked around again, taking in all the scents and trying to figure out what each was. He could determine all sorts of foods. But before h could discover any more, he felt Ardea grab his hand and pull him away.
“This is my favorite game that they have!”
He smiled as he followed. He wondered what this game was. The two seemed to have similar likes in a bunch of things. Perhaps this would be a game he'd enjoy too!
When they finally crossed the busy crowd, he got a good look at the game. He wasn't sure what it was... The rubber ducks looked interesting though!
As she turned to him, he looked down to her curiously, noticing the sorrowful expression. Ches' head tilted to the side a bit as he wondered why. He wasn't confused for long though.
“I forgot my wallet. Uhm… Would you mind paying for me?”
“I’ll pay you back I swear!”
He smiled warmly, understanding her predicament. "Of course! No need to worry about paying me back though. I'll pay for everything. A gift for helping me escape," he replied with a wink. Cheshire then reached down in his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He retrieved the needed amount and handed it to the man behind in the booth. With that, he turned back to her with a smile, "Have fun, Love."
