Ardea lit up considerably once again as Ches handed the money to the vendor, telling her that she didn’t have to worry about paying. She smiled brightly at him before turning to the vendor, who brandished towards the little river of ducks. Biting her lip in concentration, Ardea tried to figure out just which duck to choose. Finally she chose a bright pink one, pulling it out of the water and being sure not to actually touch the wetness. She flipped it over and saw a “2” written there in black sharpie. She showed it to the vendor who nodded.
“Good job,” he said, “a secondary prize. You can have any of the small stuffed animals.”
Ardea looked at her choices, trying to decide which one to choose. There were little cats and dogs and elephants and all other kinds of animals, but one especially caught her attention. She pointed to it, smiling brightly, and the vendor handed her the orange fox. It was small enough that Ardea could hold it in one hand, but big enough that it was worthy of being called a prize. She turned to Ches triumphantly, brandishing the small prize.
“Isn’t he cute?” she questioned, laughing lightly, happily.

Cheshire watched closely as she turned to play the game, curious to figure out what all you did. It didn't look like much really. As he watched, he felt someone bump into him, sending him to the side a bit. "Oh! Sorry, man," the stranger apologized before noticing the ears. "Little early to be dressing up for Halloween isn't it?" Cheshire didn't take offense though he had to admit, it was a little annoying when people said stuff like that. "Yeah," he replied with a chuckle. The man apologized once more before walking off, leaving Cheshire to vent silently.
“Good job.”
His eyes immediately shot back to the booth to see Ardea had already won the game. He was a bit disappointed he didn't see how the game went but managed to keep that feeling under wraps. Besides, he couldn't help but smile when she showed him her prize of which she was certainly proud.
“Isn’t he cute?”
He looked over the small stuffed fox, a smirk gracing his lips. "It's very cute." Then, being in the mood, he continued with, "But not as cute as you." He couldn't help but flirt. It was in his nature. But he was being entirely truthful. She was indeed cute. A beautiful young lady. So it wasn't wrong for him to say that.

Ardea felt the crimson heat that pulsed to her cheeks at Ches’s comment. The worst part was that she couldn’t turn away fast enough to hide it. She did turn away, though it didn’t help much since she turned and was immediately facing the vendor, who had an earsplitting grin. He winked at the two of them and Ardea was already dreading the words about to escape his mouth.
“You two are quite the cute couple,” he said, chuckling lightly, his big belly bouncing with every laugh. “Though why you chose a lad who wears a cat costume I’ll never know.”
At this point Ardea, feeling like she couldn’t be more embarrassed if she tried, grabbed Ches’s hand – her other one grasping the little stuffed fox - and dragged him away, the vendor’s laughter reaching them even when they were three stands down. Finally she slowed her pace once she couldn’t hear the laughing any longer and turned to Ches. She wanted to thank him for the compliment, but thought it best not to bring it up again or else her cheeks might just burn off.
“So… uhm… I chose that one,” she said, glancing at him but refusing to look him in the eyes at the moment. “Your turn.”

He really enjoyed the reaction he got from his comment. She almost immediately turned red and like any girl who blushed, tried to hide it. To her demise, he wasn't the only one around to see it. He smiled at the vendor as he complimented them. But what he said next seemed to falter his smile.
“Though why you chose a lad who wears a cat costume I’ll never know.”
He was really getting tired of that but he supposed he had to get over it. He was acting as if they were a costume anyway. Sill, he had to bite his tongue to hold back that irritated hiss. Why did people have to be so rude? Luckily, Ardea dragged him off, his anger quickly drifting away the further they got from him.
When they stopped, she told him it was his turn to choose what they do. Ches noticed how she seemed to be avoiding eye contact. She must have been embarrassed still. "I'm sorry, Love. Didn't mean to embarrass you like that." After he apologized, he looked around and thought of something they could do. There were so many things that it was hard to decide. But it was his turn so he'd have to try.
"Hmm..." His eyes stopped on one particular stand that caught his eye. "Oooh! This one looks fun," he pointed towards the stand. A Milk Bottle Knockdown game. He didn't know why it sparked his interest. Perhaps it was the milk bottles? Whatever the reason, he wanted to try it. He grabbed her hand as she had done before, pulling her along and making sure no one would bump into her. Then once they made it, the vendor greeted them with a smile which Cheshire returned.
"Want to try first or want me?" He asked her with a charming smile.

After Ches had apologized and while he was looking around for the next thing to do, Ardea looked up and over at him. She couldn’t help but blush again, lightly, at being called “Love”, though it wasn’t as bad as before since she knew he used it naturally and it didn’t really mean anything. He was a rather handsome young man, a fact that Ardea had silently noted numerous times since joining the circus, and he was always smiling, something that Ardea quite enjoyed. He seemed to always enjoy life no matter what and Ardea really liked that.
Before Ardea could really get into breaking down how she felt about Ches, he had pointed at a game and had grabbed her hand, starting to bring her along after him. She felt her cheeks redden again, but only slightly, and she squeezed his hand a little as they headed towards the next stand, noting with a soft smile that he was making sure she didn’t run into anyone.
They were still holding hands when Ches turned to her and asked who should go first. She’d never really been good at the milk bottle game and she had already won a prize so she decided to let Ches do this one. She slipped her hand out of his after a moment, though she had to tell herself to do it.
“You go ahead,” she said, grasping her little fox behind her back and smiling at him, motioning for him to continue.

He sensed something about her. A certain change in her mood. It was an animal thing. He could feel people's emotions and was capable of reading them. Well... most of them. Whatever her feelings were, he couldn't quite pinpoint what exactly it was. The curiosity was killing him but he wasn't about to ask her what she was thinking. The fact he could sense these things alone was not very popular with the others. Besides, he almost got himself set on fire once today, he didn't want to risk it again. The two got along well, sure. But everyone had their faults. Like he had the dislike of people commenting rudely on his ears and tail, some people didn't like it when people were too nosy.
When she told him to go ahead, he smiled back at her, "Alright!"
Cheshire turned to the vendor while he pulled the wallet back out of his pocket. "So... What do you do in this game?" He watched the man as he picked up a baseball and showed it to him. "You use three baseballs to knock down the three bottle pyramids. Knock all of them down and you win." The Cat smiled playfully. His tail, unfortunately, began to sway with the excitement. "Sounds pretty easy. But I'll play it anyway," he replied handing the vendor the required payment. "Good luck."
Cheshire grabbed the first ball and gazed at the first target before tossing a quick shot. The first only knocked down the top three... "Hmm... Little harder than I thought..." Cheshire scratched the back of his head a bit in embarrassment. He was a little too sure of himself. The next time he wound up a pitch, his golden eyes narrowed as he focused on the pyramid, searching for a weak spot. His tongue stuck out to the side of his mouth as he focused. Finding the point, he pitched the ball, knocking down the bottles successfully. He smirked at the small victory before he used his last ball to knock down the next pyramid with ease.
"Two out of three. Congrats! Pick a prize from the second shelf." Cheshire's eyes searched the shelf for a good prize. His grin widened as he found the perfect thing. "That one!" The vendor retrieved the prize chosen, returning with a pair of necklaces. The pair held their own half of a broken heart. "Thank you."
Cheshire then turned and held out the necklaces for her to view. "Pick one, Love," he said with a charming smile.

Ardea watched Ches play the game with a soft, happy smile gracing her lips the entire time. Ches seemed to be enjoying herself – she noted the swishing tail – and that was really what she had been hoping for in bring him to the festival town. She bit her bottom lip lightly in anticipation as Ches started playing the game. He slowly went through the game until he had used all of his balls. Ardea smiled happily at him, clutching her little fox lightly as she watched him pick out his prize. She wondered idly what he would get. There were many nice prizes and he had his pick of almost anything besides the excessively large stuffed animals hanging from the top of the stand.
Ardea wasn’t able to see the choice that Ches made, though she strained to see it. Ches was somewhat blocking the way and she frowned a little bit, but figured she would see what it was soon enough. When finally he turned around, brandishing his little prizes, Ardea’s eyes widened. The two necklaces were on silver chains and the half-hearts at the end were painted a beautiful bright blue.
She blushed lightly at the “Love” use this time, but attempted to ignore it, instead setting her little fox down and reaching out to pick the left-hand side of the broken heart. She lifted it up to see and a wide, happy smile spread across her features. She held out the necklace to Ches.
“Mind helping me put it on?”
She then turned around, holding up her hair slightly so that he could fix the clasp behind her neck. While she was turned away from him, Ardea let out a silent breath that she didn’t know she was holding in. She didn’t really know why she was acting so strange today. Sure, she was out at a festival with the man who was very close to being revered as a savior by her and who seemed intent on making her cheeks burn off before the end of the day, but this was Ches, her boss. She pushed all of those thoughts away with that breath, however, deciding to just pretend that for right now he was just her friend, not her boss or any sort of savior or whatever.

He watched as she made her decision, the charming smile turning to the wide grin as she finally chose one. The small blue hearts had caught his eye and he was sure she would like it. He thought it would look good on her as well.
When she handed the necklace back and asked for assistance, Cheshire smiled warmly, "Of course." The cat lifted the piece of jewelry, unhooking it then positioned it around her neck. As he fixed the clasp once more, his tail continued to sway and he could feel the vendors questioning glance burning his back. He immediately stopped upon realizing it and hoped the man would not ask him about it.
"There you go, Ardea. Now let me see how it looks on you," he requested with a laugh. Cheshire tightened his grip around the other half of the heart as he waited for Ardea to present him with her knew accessory. He also kept a close eye on the vendor behind them, hoping he wasn't coming to any rational assumptions.

Once Ches was done clasping the necklace around her neck, Ardea turned around as instructed, all doubts as to having a good day with Ches completely from her mind. She smiled at the young man before her, lightly touching the necklace that hung right below her collar bone. The light blue heart glinted in the bright sunlight and Ardea was exceptionally happy with it.
“How does it look?” she questioned, looking down at the necklace lovingly for a long moment before turning back to Ches with a bright smile.
As they stood there together Ardea couldn’t honestly believe that she had been worried about that day. Everything seemed so great. From the smell of the freshly made foods to the happy laughter all around, Ardea couldn’t really think of a better place to be at that moment. It really was a beautiful day.

When she turned around and faced him, his worries seemed to fade away. He smiled back, noting the pleasant smile she gave. She seemed happy about it. "It looks great! Compliments your eyes very well." He then smirked playfully, "A great choice if I do say so myself."
He thought about commenting again but decided it was probably better to avoid it. She seemed embarrassed about it so maybe he should choose his words a little wiser. Wouldn't want to ruin the day. It wasn't very fun and often had damaging effects for him.
After a moment of looking her over, he felt someone bump into him once more, hoping to play the game he was blocking. "Oh! I'm sorry. Excuse me." He turned back to Ardea, smiling sheepishly. "Ah, well. Where shall we go next," he questioned as he stepped out of the way.

“Hmmm…” Ardea thought aloud, her eyes looking all around them. There were plenty of games and shopping stands that looked interesting. They could always sit and listen to the band that was playing. The food- Suddenly Ardea’s stomach let out a rather loud grumble. Instinctively the young woman put her hand on her stomach, trying desperately to make it stop being so loud. She looked up at Ches sheepishly, blushing. “Uhm… How about something to eat?”
There were many stands all around the festival that had delicious smells radiating out of them. From the classic corndogs and hamburgers to Greek Gyros and Elephant Ears, it seemed like the festival had everything. Ardea didn’t know exactly what she wanted, though the prospect of a nice, warm corndog and some French fries was calling out to her and just thinking about it made her stomach let out another low grumble, this one thankfully not as loud as the first.
“I’m really sorry for making you pay,” Ardea said a few moments later as they stood in front of one of the food vendors, who had just handed Ardea a delicious little corndog-French fry meal. She looked sheepishly at Ches, honestly sorry. They had come to the festival so that he could enjoy himself away from work and here she was making him pay for everything. Ardea’s pride was taking quite a beating for this. “What’re you going to get?” she asked after a pause, wondering what the half-cat would want to eat at a carnival.

Cheshire's ears perked and his eyes widened at the sound of the loud growl of her stomach. When she asked for something to eat, he smiled, "Yeah. Come on before you starve!"
“I’m really sorry for making you pay.”
Cheshire looked down to her, tilting his head to the side in confusion. Why did she seem so sad about it? He was glad to pay. It was really no trouble on his part. His money was mostly used for the good of his performers anyway. So this was just him helping out. "It's fine love. No need to apologize!" he replied with a smile, hoping to calm her nerves.
“What’re you going to get?”
Cheshire lowered his ears as he thought about it. What would he get? The cat honestly didn't eat much. It was why he was so skinny in the first place. "Eh... I'll just get a drink." He ordered his drink and once the two had they asked for, he paid the vendor and turned to Ardea. "Where would you like to sit, Love?" he questioned as he took a sip from the water bottle he was given. There weren't many empty tables to choose from as other people seemed to be hungry as well.

“… Just a drink?” Ardea mumbled to herself in response to Ches’s meal choice. She knew that he had to eat sometime, though at that moment as she thought about it, she had never really seen him eat. He was rather excessively thin, she noted, though maybe he just had high metabolism? Ardea didn’t have time to really think excessively on the subject before Ches asked where she’d like to sit. A wide grin spread across Ardea’s face and she instinctively grabbed Ches’s hand in hers, the other holding on tightly to her corndog.
“I know the perfect place,” she said and started leading Ches away, taking a few bites of her corndog on the way. Ardea was leading Ches through the crowd of people, heading towards the corner of the main square. In the very back corner of the square, wedged between two tall buildings, was a little gateway. If you went through the little gate you would enter a small little courtyard surrounded by tall buildings. It wasn’t very big, but the area was beautiful. There was a little hill with a large willow tree at the top. Flowers and bright green grass filled the area and Ardea loved the flowery scent that accompanied any visit to her little secret garden.
“I used to come here all the time,” Ardea explained as she opened the gate, relinquishing her grip on Ches’s hand, and then stepped in, breathing in a deep breath and letting it out with a content sigh. The little garden was as beautiful as ever and a content, happy smile made its way up to Ardea’s lips. “When I was an agent I would come here constantly to get away from everything.”
The music from the festival could still be heard, though it was more of a background sound instead of the main attraction for the ear. She walked over, expecting Ches to follow, and strolled up to the top of the little hill, where she turned and sat down, leaning back against the willow tree, shaded from the sun by its long, wispy arms. Happily, she took another large bite of her corndog, smiling softly.

Ches smiled sheepishly when when heard her reaction to his choice. Yeah, he couldn't help it. He just wasn't that hungry, really. He was, however, thirsty.
He began to take another sip when Ardea grabbed a hold of his hand and lead him off. He simply followed with a smile, curious to find out where she was taking him. When they arrived, he was quite amazed by the area. "Wow," he exclaimed with a cheerful smile as he followed her up the hill.
The Cheshire made it to the tree and sat against it like Ardea. He took a deep breath, taking in the sweet scents of the flowers before releasing a pleasant sigh. "This place it great," he commented.

“Yeah,” Ardea replied, smiling happily all around her. She finally turned her gaze back to Ches and caught the tranquil expression on his face. For a long moment she just sat there staring at him, a curious expression on her face. She was trying to figure something out, or rather trying to figure Ches out and exactly what she thought of Ches. He was an interesting character, that’s for sure, but Ardea didn’t really know him.
“Ches?” she said slowly, a bit softly as well. “Can you tell me about yourself?”
It was a strange question and Ardea instantly felt her cheeks starting to burn as she realized just how strange it was and how awkward she must seem. She couldn’t help but want to know more about him, though. She wasn’t one to shy away from her feelings at all and she admitted that she was just a tad bit interested in her boss, though she wasn’t sure about the feelings. Maybe it was just because he had done so much for her or maybe it was because he was rather attractive. Hell, maybe it was Ardea just not understanding her own emotions. Whatever the case, she wanted to know more and even though she was embarrassed by her blunt question, she didn’t regret it.
